Resumo

Este artigo pretende definir e disponibilizar diretrizes de conservação preventiva de diapositivos de vidro pintados à mão para lanterna mágica, o primeiro instrumento ótico de projeção de imagens, inventado no século XVII. Para isso, cerca de 300 diapositivos pintados à mão da Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema (CP) e Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência da Universidade de Lisboa (MUHNAC), foram estudados em termos de representatividade nestas coleções, género discursivo, tipo de construção ou mecanismo de movimento, estado de conservação e problemas de degradação. Foi realizado um inquérito a instituições por todo mundo de forma ter uma visão geral da realidade de outras coleções de diapositivos de lanterna mágica em termos de características formais e medidas de conservação preventiva e interventiva empregues. As diretrizes abordam principalmente as condições ambientais (temperatura, humidade relativa e luz), controlo de partículas e pestes, condições e materiais para reserva e exposição, e manuseamento. São também fornecidas recomendações para demonstrações e espetáculos de projeção.
